The Basics Differences between Diabetes Type 1 and Type 2

You will experience diabetes if your amount of glucose in the blood is too high. It can happen because the body cannot use the high amount of glucose properly. Diabetes of course is a serious life-long health condition. Glucose itself is a form of carbohydrate that comes from foods like rice, potatoes, cereals, bread, some fruit and some vegetables. This glucose supposed to enter the body’s cells to be used as fuel by insulin (a type of chemical messenger). Occasionally, the body does not make enough insulin or the cells do not respond properly to insulin.

There are several types of diabetes but there are two main types called as diabetes type 1 and diabetes type 2. This writing will help you distinguish the basic differences between those two types of diabetes as clear as it can be.

The Definition

Some people think that medical terms are hard and make difficulty in understanding some disease. You do not have to be worried because I will explain it as simple as I can. Diabetes type 1 happens when there is no key (insulin) to unlock the door to the cells. However, diabetes type 2 happens when the key (insulin) is unable to unlock the door properly or the lock does not work properly.

The ICD-10 Codes

A system including some codes to diagnose any disease called ICD. It stands for International Classification of Diseases. The latest revision recently (before the new one) is the tenth revision (ICD-10). ICD-10 diagnosis code for diabetes type 1 is E10.9. However, ICD-10 code for diabetes type 2 is E11.65.   • The body’s immune system attacks beta cells in pancreas. Insulin is not produced or it can be produced in insufficient amounts.

  • Your receptor cells that have become less sensitive to insulin are unable to remove glucose from blood.
  • Mostly happen related to aging, inactive lifestyle, obesity and genetic influence and low levels of vitamin D.

That is all about the difference between diabetes type and type 2. The symptoms are often same but the onset of diabetes type is rapid but the diabetes type two occur slow within years.
